Hey everyone!
It’s been about four months since I started this newsletter, and I am so grateful for your steady attention!
This week, I’m on Mackinac Island, leading a writers retreat, and so I thought it would be a great time to reintroduce myself and what I’m trying to do here.
Who the Hell is Lynne Golodner?
I’m a Midwesterner with a lot of energy, four grown kids, a cute house on a tree-lined street in a square-mile suburb of Detroit, and I live across from a golf course where deer stroll along the fence line and sometimes squeeze through a break in the chain link and wander into my yard.
I love to write. Always have. A corduroy covered journal from my youth sits on a shelf behind my desk to remind me of who I’ve always been. I am married to a really fun guy (my second husband), and I am a marketing entrepreneur. I started out as a journalist in New York, then Washington, D.C., then I came home to Michigan, and I’ve written thousands of articles for magazines and newspapers and literary journals.
In 2008, I left my first husband, became the single mother of three very young kids, and started Your People LLC, a marketing and public relations company. I also wrote books on the side - until I decided on-the-side wasn’t enough. That was about five years ago, and I made a deliberate plan to pivot so that I could make writing my priority.
Now, I write every morning, M-F, for 3-4 hours, and my plan is to write a book a year for the rest of my life. I’ve had eight books published - two poetry collections and six nonfiction books - all by small presses. This month, my first novel, WOMAN OF VALOR, makes its debut.
This year, I launched Scotia Road Books, a hybrid press for women over 40 with strong voices that need to be heard. I chose to publish my novel through this imprint instead of waiting for validation and selection by the publishing industry, and it feels fantastic.
I started this newsletter to build community around not only writing, but doing things YOUR way. Believing your voice is valuable enough that you can let it lead. Not waiting for approval from others to feel good about yourself.
I publish a newsletter every Monday, and I make it available for everyone, whether they’re a paid subscriber or not. BUT…my paid subscribers get lots of other benefits…like a monthly book giveaway, bimonthly Writing Coaching calls, big discounts off all my classes and retreats and programs, and my Founding Subscribers get a free 1:1 coaching session!
THANK YOU so much for reading my Rebel Author Newsletter! I’d love it if you might reply and tell me a little bit about you and why you keep reading!
Also…I’m a huge fan of great novels that suck you in and take you on a journey. Some favorites include Rosina Lippi/Sara Donati’s Wilderness Series, Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, Pam Houston, Jerry Dennis, Thomas Lynch, Chaim Potok, Herman Wouk, and a lot more that I can’t think of right now.
I spent a decade as an Orthodox Jew, and I write about that time in many of my creative nonfiction essays. I’m a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, American Society of Journalists and Authors, and a board member of Michigan Writers.
As an author, I write emotional novels with compelling Jewish characters who are determined to fill their lives with passion, purpose and love.
As a writing coach with marketing expertise, I help writers find their voice, improve their craft, get published and build an audience.
Above all else, I love to play with words.
Thanks for reading! All love, Lynne
P.S. I’m on all the social media platforms, so follow me everywhere, and I’ll
