When you sit at a desk in your living room every day, alone and in the quiet of your beautiful but echoing home, it’s hard to believe that life is about connections, the little moments, the human-to-human interactions. But I know that to be true, which is why I’m writing this newsletter, to talk to YOU.
I’m finally accepting that I might have something to say. I’ve always been a writer but didn’t quite buy into that for a long time because, well, you know, all the things that other people told me about what makes a worthwhile pursuit. Not writing! Get a job that pays the bills, and all that. Which I did, for a long time. I was a journalist in New York, Washington, D.C., and then Detroit, and I did really well at writing stories and getting paid for it.
But they weren’t MY stories.
And then, when the economy tanked and I got divorced and I had three little kids to feed and a musician-ex-husband (do the math), I needed a steady source of income so I wouldn’t lose the house. So I created Your People LLC, a marketing and public relations company. And that did really well.

But in the quiet moments, I whispered, I’m a writer, first and foremost. I am really a writer.
